What is Tadalafil?
tadalafil is a drug. Its main features are as follows:
1. Medication for erectile dysfunction (ED)
Mechanism of action:
-Tadalafil inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5). This enzyme is responsible for the degradation of nitrogen monoxide (no)-dependent on cyclic monophosphate guanosin (cGMP) in vascular tissue and smooth muscle of the penis. By inhibiting PDE-5, the concentration of cGMP increases, causing smooth muscle relaxation in the penis, allowing an increase in blood flow and the appearance of an erection.
-advantages:
-it has a relatively long duration of action compared to other medicines for ED. Its effect can last up to approximately 36 hours, which has resulted in the term "the weekend in a single pill" in its commercial promotion in some cases.
2. In hypertensive pulmonary artery disease (PAH)
-Tadalafil is also used in the treatment of PAH.
-in this case, by increasing the concentration of cGMP in pulmonary vessels, it helps to relax pulmonary blood vessels, decreasing pulmonary blood pressure and improving cardiac capacity and exercise tolerance in patients with PAH.
However, tadalafil may have side effects, including headaches, heartburn, nasal congestion, blurred vision in some cases, and may have interactions with other medications, so it should be prescribed and administered under medical supervision.
