Tadalafil Dosage Varies for Elderly Patients.
Guía de Salud Masculina
The dose of tadalafil varies depending on factors such as treatment purpose:
1. For erectile dysfunction (ED)
1、conventional dose
- The recommended starting dose is 10mg, which can be taken about 30 minutes to 12 hours before sexual activity. Depending on the individual's efficacy and tolerability, the dose can be increased to 20mg or reduced to 5mg. The maximum frequency of medication is once a day.
2、special populations
Elderly patients (65 years old and above): There is no need to adjust the initial dose, but considering that there may be a certain degree of physiological decline in liver and kidney function in the elderly population, doctors may be more cautious in adjusting the dose based on individual circumstances.
patients with renal insufficiency
- In patients with mild (creatinine clearance 51 - 80ml/min) and moderate (creatinine clearance 31 - 50ml/min) renal dysfunction, the starting dose is 5mg, which can be adjusted to 10mg based on individual reactions.
- In patients with severe renal dysfunction (creatinine clearance 30ml/min), the maximum dose is 5mg and daily use is not recommended.
patients with hepatic insufficiency
- For patients with mild and moderate hepatic dysfunction (Child-Pugh Class A or B), the recommended dose is 10mg, taken up to once daily and under the guidance of an experienced doctor.
- Tadalafil is not recommended in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction (Child-Pugh Class C).
2. For pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)
1、dose
- The recommended dose for treating pulmonary arterial hypertension is 40mg once daily. At this dose, the drug reduces symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension and delays disease progression by improving pulmonary vascular hemodynamics and other mechanisms.
2、pediatric patients
- For children and adolescents under the age of 18, the safety and effectiveness of tadalafil in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension have not yet been fully determined, and its use is generally not recommended.
